Sector rallies behind agreement strategy for growth, job
creation and development
ICT Summit, Gallagher Estate, Midrand, 4 June 2002
The Information and Communication and Technology Summit, held
under the auspices of NEDLAC ended today, with the key stakeholders
committing to work together to take the sector forward to ensure
job creation, growth and service delivery.
The summit, attended by several hundred-stakeholder
representatives from labour, government, business and the
community, was the first of its kind in the ICT sector. The
delegates gathered to discuss how to take the sector forward so as
to contribute to the country's economic and social development.
The summit was the platform for discussion of key agreements
thrashed out by the stakeholders in Nedlac over the last several
months. It focused on generating implementable strategies to give
effect to the agreements struck in Nedlac.
At the closure of the summit, parties committed themselves to a
declaration that captures the spirit and intent of the agreements.
This declaration will guide the parties in the months ahead as they
firm up the implementation process.
To ensure the summit resolutions and agreements are implemented
a post-summit process has been agreed to, held under the auspices
of NEDLAC. The constituencies have set up a steering committee for
this purpose.
