SOCIAL DIALOGUE

Nedlac has recently begun a process of examining the state of social dialogue in South Africa. This project has two dimensions:

1. An overview of social dialogue's development. This aspect of the work is being done in conjunction with Infocus Programme on Social Dialogue in the International Labour Organisation.

2. An audit of social dialogue institutions. The audit will provide details of:

• Where such institutions are based.

• Contact details.

• Broad area of work.

• The context in which those institutions emerged

The audit will incorporate three levels:

• National, incorporating Labour Market Statutory institutions.

• Provincial.

• Sector.

The final report will constitute a valuable resource in understanding the new institutional terrain that has emerged since the first democratic elections.
