South Africa has some of the world's highest quality silicon
deposits. Despite this clear comparative advantage, South Africa
does not have a silicon based high technology industry.
This studies aims to entice foreign investors into this sector
by identifying:
- The competitive advantages available to and the disadvantages
to be overcome by a silicon industry in South Africa;
- The operating and investment environment considered to be
conducive to the establishment of a silicon cluster;
Based on the above, an integrated action plan for the
establishment of a silicon cluster will be developed.
