BUSINESS DAY ARTICLE CONFLATES UNRELATED ISSUES

14 April

The headlines in today's Business Day "Bid to salvage summit as Dexter quits" and

"Dexter quits, Nedlac tries to save summit" suggest that there is a link between the resignation of Phillip Dexter as Executive Director of Nedlac and the postponement of the Growth and Development Summit (GDS).

Nedlac would like to re-iterate, as was made clear at the media conference on Friday, that there is no link between these two issues. It is disingenuous to suggest that the GDS would be "derailed" by the departure of the Nedlac Executive Director, when the article itself points out that Mr Dexter's departure (as from 1 July) has been timed in such a way that it does not impact on the summit (scheduled for 7 June). The article also reflects that Mr Dexter has said that he will be available even after his departure, if he is needed for any post-summit processes.
