CEPPAWU, SACWU AND SACCAWU TABLES A JOINT NOTICE IN TERMS OF SECTION 77 OF THE LRA

Nedlac today received a joint notice from CEPPAWU, SACWU and SACCAWU in terms of Section 77 of the LRA, 1995.

The notice is directed at government, in particular the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, in response to the regulations promulgated by the Minister on 9 May 2002. The regulations ban the manufacture, trade and commercial distribution of plastic bags with a wall thickness less than 80 micrometres.

In terms of Section 77, a registered trade union may table a notice at Nedlac and, if the matter is deemed to be a socio-economic one and the parties cannot resolve the issues contained in the notice, take protected protest action once the matter has been considered.
