Passionate About Job Creation

25 March 2001

Nedlac is looking for eight people who are "passionate about stimulating economic growth and job creation" to drive the implementation of the Proudly South African campaign. Adverts in today's Sunday newspapers put the word out that a Chief Executive Officer, Marketing Manager, Compliance Manager and Membership Co-ordinator, with support staff, are needed to set up a new organisation which will run the campaign.

The Proudly South African campaign is all about increasing demand for South African goods and services, thereby stimulating growth and helping to create jobs. Research conducted in other countries showed that creating an independent, non-profit organisation, with representation from key stakeholders such as government, business and labour on the board, was the best way to run similar campaigns.

Michael McDonald , organised business' representative on the NEDLAC task team that has been planning the campaign, said that the opportunity to work on such a campaign was a very concrete way of making a positive contribution to the country. "This will not be just any other job - it will be a real challenge and in many ways, a marketer's dream. There is already a huge feel-good factor about the campaign. It's a way ordinary people can make a difference."

Momentum is building up towards the launch of the new structure - NEDLAC wants applications for the jobs to be in on Friday, so that they can get cracking at finding the right people to bring on board.
