NEDLAC MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING 14
SEPTEMBER
7 September 2001
Nedlac would like to point out that the Management Committee
meeting scheduled for Friday 14 September is a normal, monthly
meeting that was scheduled at the beginning of the year. It is not
an "all-important indaba" especially called for next Friday, as an
article in today's Business Report implies.
Secondly, there has been no formal correspondence from Business
South Africa asking for the issue of restructuring to be placed on
the agenda. The Cosatu Section 77 notice on privatisation will be
on the agenda anyway in a standard item on Section 77 notices.
Thirdly, the Nedlac secretariat has no information regarding a
"series of high-level meetings between government, labour and
business" to thrash out issues prior to the Nedlac Management
Committee meeting.
- Other issues on the Management Committee meeting agenda
include
- a report on Nedlac's deliberations on the Draft Mineral
Development Bill;
- Nedlac report on the Draft Accord on Occupational Health and
Safety;
- a draft protocol on the handling of Section 77 notices;
and
- update reports from the Chambers on the issues they are
currently working on. These include:
- the implementation of the Proudly South African campaign (Trade
and Industry Chamber);
- the finalisation of the report on the Labour Law Amendments
negotiations (Labour Market Chamber);
- the draft Immigration Bill (Labour Market Chamber);
- the conference on the restructuring of the financial sector
(Public Finance and Monetary Policy Chamber); and
- the planning for the Civil Society Summit (Development
Chamber).
