Sactwu Section 77 notice of intended protest action.
Sactwu served a notice in terms of Section 77 of the LRA last
week. The union intends initiating protest action against the
clothing retail sector for the continuing job losses in the sector
which it believes are the result of exploitative practices,
sourcing and pricing policies of the retailers and high levels of
imports of goods in the sector.
The Section 77 Committee met to consider the application and the
response of the retailers that attended.
The parties agreed to meet in a fortnights time to allow the
retailers to consider the issues raised by the union and to
formulate responses to these. Nedlac will facilitate this
meeting.
