FINANCIAL SECTOR TRANSFORMATION SUMMIT
31 May 2001
The Nedlac constituencies, government, business, labour and the
community, met today regarding the process of preparing for a
summit later in the year on the transformation of the financial
sector. The call for the summit had been made by the Community and
Labour constituencies earlier this year.
A fruitful meeting reached agreement on a timeframe for the
process of preparing for the summit and on the work programme that
the constitiuencies would be engaged in in the run up to the
summit. The scope of the summit, the terms of reference, and the
research agenda for the summit will be finalised by the task team
in the next fortnight. Constituencies also discussed the various
other processes underway that deal with aspects of the
transformation of the finacial sector.
The task team together with the secretariat will be responsible
for co-ordinating a workshop prior to the Summit. At the workshop
constituencies would table their position papers.
The task team agreed that in the run up to the summit, a
conference would take place that would include experts and
experiences of other countries in dealing with challenges of a
similar nature to those facing the constituencies in the
sector.
