NEDLAC TO BRIEF PARLIAMENT ON ANNUAL REPORT
23 August 2001
At the Nedlac Executive Council meeting, which took place on 17
August, the Executive Director, Phillip Dexter, presented Nedlac's
Annual Report for the year 2000/2001 to the Minister of Labour,
Membathisi Mdladlana.
The Minister will table the report in Parliament on Monday, 27
August. Members of the Labour Portfolio and Select Committees will
be briefed by the Executive Director and representatives of the
Nedlac constituencies on Tuesday 28 August.
The Annual Report covers the activities of the Council between
April 2000 and March 2001. As required by the Nedlac Act, the
report also includes a socio-economic chapter, which reports on
trends in subjects such as economic growth, employment, labour
market inequalities, trade and investment, and other economic and
social development indicators.
As a publicly funded body, Nedlac has also to account for its
usage of public monies. The Annual Report contains the audited
financial statements and balance sheet of the Council, and
Parliamentarians will have the opportunity to question Nedlac on
how it has spent its allocation.
The Annual Report is also distributed at Nedlac's Annual Summit.
This was due to take place on 1 September this year, but has been
postponed due to the Racism Conference in Durban. A new date for
the Summit will be announced as soon as a date is received from the
President's Office, and confirmed by the Nedlac constituencies.
