NEDLAC AGREES TO LABOUR LAW REVIEW NEGOTIATIONS
PROCESS
Government briefed Nedlac's Labour Market Chamber today on the
content of the proposed amendments to the Labour Relations Act, the
Basic Conditions of Employment Act and the Insolvency Act.
The Labour Market Chamber agreed to set up a sub-committee to
negotiate the proposed amendments. The parties will now go back to
their constituencies to get a mandate on which to negotiate. The
committee will meet in an all-day session on 17 August to kick off
the negotiations.
Both business and labour expressed their willingness to work
with their constituencies in order to have an extensive mandate by
17 August, and to conclude the negotiations in the shortest
possible time.
Government appealed to the parties to drive this process
strongly, as it was important that the extended protection and the
increased efficiencies that the amendments would introduce into the
labour market were implemented as early as possible.
