COSATU ENDS SIT-IN
The overall convenors of Nedlac met this morning to discuss the
sit-in by Cosatu senior officials at Nedlac's offices. The overall
convenors, which consist of the Director-General of Labour, Rams
Ramashia, Raymond Parsons of Business, Khulu Mbongo of the
Community Constituency, and Tony Ehrenreich of Labour (standing in
for Ebrahim Patel, who is away), agreed that the terms of reference
for yesterday's meeting had been interpreted differently by their
constituencies. This had resulted in Cosatu's unhappiness with the
government delegation sent to the meeting.
The overall convenors agreed that the Executive Council meeting
of the 19 June would go ahead to discuss issues of national
priority, including the issues related to unemployment regarding
which Cosatu protested recently. Prior to this meeting, there would
be a further meeting of officials to prepare the areas on which the
Executive Council should focus.
After the overall convenors' meeting, Cosatu met separately with
the overall convenor for government, Advocate Rams Ramashia, and
subsequently decided to end their sit-in of the Nedlac offices.
