Presidential Job Summit
Supervisory Structure weekly meetings
11 AUGUST 1998
The Nedlac Supervisory Structure on the Presidential Job Summit,
chaired by Minister of Trade and Industry, Alec Erwin, held its
sixth weekly meeting in Johannesburg today. During these meetings,
the four Nedlac parties have elaborated on their proposals in order
to seek agreement or greaterunderstanding. Further bilaterals will
now be held, culminating in report backs to the Supervisory
Structure which will prepare a coordinated programme for the job
summit.
The four Nedlac
constituencies:business, labour, community and government, have
concentrated on appropriate policies andprogrammes and focussed
considerable attention on effective implementation mechanisms.
Allparties remain equally committed to a successful jobs summit and
inferences that any party is delaying the process are
unfounded.
The date for the job summit willbe
decided as soon as possible based on the progress made in these
discussions.
