NEDLAC WELCOMES CHAMBER OF MINES ANNOUNCEMENT

On behalf of Nedlac I welcome the announcement by the Chamber of Mines that it will not commence any new retrenchment processes in the period leading up to and including the Gold Mining Summit.

This announcement by the Chamber is a positive response to the call made last week by Government, Labour and Community in Nedlac for amoratorium on retrenchments in the period leading up to the Gold Mining Summit.

This call emerged in the meetings of the Special Management Committee held in terms of section 77(1)(c) of the Labour Relations Act.

I hope that the NUM and the Chamber of Mines areable to create an environment that assists the Summit in finding lasting solutions to the mining crisis.
