NEDLAC REALIGNS ITS PROCESS FOR DEVELOPING A STRATEGIC
VISION AND FRAMEWORK FOR SOCIAL PARTNERSHIP
25 April 1996
Since mid-1995, Nedlac has been involved in discussions on the
development of a strategic vision and framework for social
partnership. As an input into these discussions, organised labour
recently released proposals for "Social Equity and Job Creation",
and Business South Africa released a document entitled "Background
document for the social accord process".
Nafcoc tabled its proposals, entitled " Growth and development
with equity strategy", at the Executive Council meeting today. The
community constituency's document will be released soon.
The Executive Council today reviewed the process underway and
agreed that:
- The secretariat should compile a consolidated document which
summarises the inputs of the various constituencies, and identifies
the areas of agreement and disagreement. The document will be
developed in consultation with the overall convenors.
- This document can then be used as a basis for a process
involving a series of planning meetings between the
constituencies.
- The first of these meetings will be held before the annual
Nedlac summit, which is to be held on 1 June.
- The issues arising from these meetings will be taken forward in
leadership discussions, and will be used to reprioritise the
chambers' agendas.
Please see the attached news release, issued on 4 April 1996,
for important background information to this process.
