NEDLAC HOLDS SPECIAL SESSION ON INFRASTRUCTURE-RELATED
JOB CREATION
13 May 1996
Nedlac's Development Chamber is holding a special session on job
creation tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 May, which will focus on creating
employment through public-infrastructure projects.
The session forms part of the approach the Development Chamber
has developed to government's urban and rural development
strategies. This approach involves special sessions on the key
areas outlined in the development strategies, as identified by the
chamber. Apart from the job-creation session, it is envisaged that
special sessions will also be held on:
- Local economic development.
- Human resource development.
- Access to land and housing.
- Services, tariffs and affordability.
- Strategies for the inclusion of marginalised sectors.
- Rural local government.
The chamber intends to reach framework agreements on each of
these key areas. The special sessions will target specific
individuals and organisations with expertise in the key areas, and
will provide the four constituencies represented in the
chamber-community, labour, business, and government-with an
opportunity to obtain the information necessary for them to
effectively participate in the agreement-making process.
At each of the special sessions, presentations will be made to a
panel comprising delegates from each constituency in the chamber.
This panel will be responsible for compiling a report based on the
sessions, which will be considered by the chamber.
The programme for the job-creation session is attached. A
comprehensive news release on tomorrow's proceedings will be issued
after the meeting. PROGRAMME
