EXECUTIVE COUNCIL URGES IMPLEMENTATION
Nedlac's Executive Council meeting in May focused on, among
other things, the way forward with respect to Nedlac's work
programme. Nedlac has a large number of issues on its agenda but to
date these had not been prioritised or approached in a manner
consistent with the 2000 summit declaration.
The constituencies agreed with the suggestion by the Executive
Director that the constituencies would need to prioritise the
strategic issues facing them. These incd the objectives of
promoting investment, growth, job creation, economic empowerment
and engaging globalisation. New issues incd the industrial
strategy.
It was also agreed that immediate issues before Nedlac needed to
be implemented or finalised. Some of these inc the Labour Law
amendments, the Proudly South African Campaign, housing, and the
budget process.
In all of these issues the constituencies emphasised the need to
set dates and key milestones for finalising discussions and
reaching agreement where possible. The 2001 Nedlac Summit will be a
key date at which progress will be measured. The Management
Committee will meet on the 25 June 2001 to sign off on the
proposals for prioritisation and the next Exco, which meets in
August, will receive a report on progress.
