Nedlac Summit
2000
Deputy President Jacob Zuma opened this year's annual Nedlac
Summit, held on 9 September at the newly completed Sandton
Convention Center. The theme of the summit was national
priorities in social dialogue and partnerships for investment, job
creation and people centered development. A common theme
running through all the speeches was the need for the social
partners to strengthen Nedlac as the pre-eminent institution of
social dialogue, as well as the need for an agreement on key
national priorities on which the partners should focus their work
at Nedlac.
Declaration
The declaration adopted by the constituencies at this year's Nedlac
summit marks a milestone in the organisation's history. The
declaration is the result of intense debate and engagement and is
indicative of the level of agreement between the different
constituencies on national social and economic priorities, faced by
the country. This is the full text of the declaration.
