NEDLAC'S
WORK PROGRAMME FOR 1999
Implementation of agreements reached at the National Economic and
Labour Council is a high priority for the body in 1999. Members of
the Nedlac's Executive Council expressed their views about the
institutions's work in 1998 and their vision for 1999 at the 15th
meeting of the council on the 5th March.
JOBS SUMMIT
AGREEMENTS
A number of agreements reached at the Jobs Summit are being taken
further in Nedlac structures, as has been outlined in Nedlac's work
programme for 1999. Others are being implemented by the Nedlac
constituencies. The supervisory structure meets regularly to get a
report-back on the progress which is being made.

Nedlac is increasingly being recognised for the role it is playing
in dispute resolution through section 77 of the LRA. This is a role
that Nedlac is obliged to play in terms of the law, but more
importantly, it is an extension of Nedlac's primary function:
promotion of social dialogue.

WITH SABC EDUCATIONAL RADIO
In 1998 there was a Management Committee decision that an effort
should be made to encourage the public broadcaster to give more
air-time to issues of a socio-economic nature. In view of this,
discussions were held with SABC-TV and radio. As a result, SABC
educational radio agreed to run a weekly series called "Commerce
and Finance" on all 10 vernacular radio stations in 1999.
