THE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT
The Growth and Development Summit Agreement, signed by all the
Nedlac constituencies on 7 June, contains commitments by all the
constituencies on what they will contribute to addressing the
growth and development challenges facing South Africa.
These commitments are summarised on the inside pages of this
Dialogue.
SUMMARY OF
AGREEMENTS
All constituencies made commitments to work for more jobs,
better jobs and decent work for all
This includes:
• Public Investment Initiatives in partnership with the private
sector. Many of these initiatives will be mainstream infrastructure
projects with a very strong construction and labour-based
component.
SOME
SPECIFIC DEADLINES
The Growth and Development Summit agreements cover the
immediate term, the medium-term and the long term. Some of the more
immediate deadlines relate to:
• Co-operatives
A task team at Nedlac is already discussing co-operatives strategy.
It was agreed that the task team should work towards presenting a
final report in November 2003.

SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Just over 18 months after it was founded, Proudly South African
recently announced the 1000th member to join the campaign, making
it the largest campaign of its kind in the world by number of
companies subscribed. Blackstone Tek, a 100% South African company
producing state-of-the art carbon fibre wheels for the
high-performance motorcycle industry, was awarded the 1000th member
insignia by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alec Erwin, in Cape
Town on 27 June.
