JOB CREATION BY LABOUR
The Labour Job Creation Trust (LJCT) launched a R200 000
recycling project of the Centre for Uplifting Rural Economies
(CURE) in Bloemfontein at the end of February.
This project, part of the LJCT implementation phase, which will
recycle waste, including paper, cardboard boxes, cans and bottles
will create 40 sustainable jobs. This will assist in alleviating
poverty and unemployment levels in the Mangaung Municipal area.
It has close links with an initiative already in progress and
will strengthen this process and provide the necessary managerial
and other resources to ensure compliance with appropriate standards
and regulations, like health and safety.
The LJCT kick-started the implementation of projects in Baleni,
Tzaneen in Limpopo Province, followed by the Dongwe Community Forum
project in the Eastern Cape Province. So far there are 30 projects
that are at an implementation stage, creating more than 7640 job
opportunities in all provinces and more than 60 are currently under
consideration by the Trustees.
These projects come from the more than 3 000 applications
received by the Labour Job Creation Trust from a variety of
organisations like the non-governmental and community based
organisations. The trust has so far raised more than R89 million
and more projects are in the process of being approved.
